Vadr is a simple and modern styled table that is appealing from every viewing angle. The most significant feature is the line of bars across the front of the table, which can be used as a bookshelf or a subtle, concealable storage space. The legs and tabletop make it unique and individualistic. The legs are specifically positioned to provide ensured stability.
The design objective of Vadr was to create a table that would be suitable for small spaces. The table's dimensions, measuring 1214 mm in width, 610 mm in depth, and 457 mm in height, make it compact yet functional. The storage unit underneath the tabletop is open on both sides, providing easy access. The line of bars laid out diagonally not only adds visual interest but also provides light coverage to what is stored under it. Additionally, the bars can hold coffee table books or magazines, while a small shelf in front of the bars offers extra table top usage.
The realization of Vadr involved a meticulous design process. It started with a sketch, which was then transformed into a sketch model to test proportions and stability. Once the model proved promising, a full-scale table was created using a CAD program. The coffee table is made of plywood and held together with wooden dowels and wood glue. After construction, the table was stained and treated, enhancing its natural beauty and durability.
Despite its simplicity, Vadr presented some design challenges. One of the main challenges was ensuring minimal visual connections between the different pieces. The joinery was carefully hidden to maintain a clean and seamless appearance. Another challenge was achieving stability with minimal leg placement. Extensive testing was conducted to ensure that the legs provided the necessary support and stability, despite their arrangement and minimal number.
Vadr was designed and completed in Los Angeles, CA. The designer, Jaimie Ota, conducted thorough research on the materials and techniques used in the design process. Plywood was chosen for its sturdiness and versatility. The designer explored various treatment options, including staining and painting, to achieve the desired aesthetic. The layered construction of plywood allowed for secure connections and structural integrity.
Vadr's unique design and attention to detail have earned it recognition in the design community. In 2020, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Vadr's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its ability to provide fulfillment and positive feelings contribute to a better world.
Vadr is not just a coffee table; it is a functional and artistic piece that adds a touch of sophistication to any living space. Its clean lines, unique features, and modern aesthetics make it a standout design that is sure to impress.
